Top Five Artists birthed from HBCU

With the celebration of Black History Month (although it should be every celebrated every month), we are here to illuminate the journey of Black artists who studied at historical black colleges before the money and fame.

Metro Boomin

Although Metro Boomin started producing beats in the high school, he still attended Morehouse College. He was hustling to collab with artists by commuting from his hometown to ATL. In 2016 and 2017, he produced fire beats and collab with artists such as Drake, Ludacris, Migos, and Juicy J.

E-40

Mr. E-40 is originally from the Bay but moved all the way to Louisiana to attend Grambling State University. After performing at a college talent show, E-40 decided to drop out and pursue a successful rap career.

P-Diddy (Sean Combs)

Sean Combs, also known as P-Diddy, Puff Daddy, or Diddy, attended Howard University up until his Sophomore year. He dropped out of college and decided to pursue a career in music becoming one the famous producers in the music industry. He still tends to donate tons of money to his Alma Mater.

2-Chainz

2-Chainz attended Alabama State University and Virginia state University before launching his rap career. He signed to Ludacris’ label, Disturbing the Peace back in 2012. He went on to have a successful career dominating feature collabs on other artists’ records.

Wale

Finally, Wale attended Virginia State and Bowie University. He first gained fame in his hometown in D.C. but then became an international hip hop star. The Nigerian-American singer signed a 1.3-million-dollar record deal with Allido and Interscope records.
